GagaOOLala Seeks to Bridge Publishing and Streaming Ecosystems as Sole Streaming Platform Exhibitor at BKKIBF 2026

In a landmark move for the global media landscape, Portico Media’s GagaOOLala—the world’s leading LGBTQ+, BL, and GL streaming platform—made history as the only streaming service to exhibit at the 2026 Bangkok International Book Fair (BKKIBF). By stepping into the traditionally publishing-driven event, GagaOOLala positioned itself as a vital bridge between LGBTQ+, BL, and GL publishing, streaming, fandom, and other IP ecosystems on a global scale.

The Industry-First Narrative: A Streamer at a Book Fair

The presence of a streaming giant at a literary fair highlighted a compelling new industry narrative: the total convergence of books, manga, webtoons, and screen content. Located at Booth C35, GagaOOLala’s presence served as a symbol of this IP convergence, inviting partners to explore how stories lived across multiple formats and fandoms simultaneously.

From Page to Screen: The Dominance of Literary IP

Under the theme “From Page to Screen: Global Pathways for BL & GL Stories,” GagaOOLala demonstrated how Asia-originated stories traveled globally through a data-driven pipeline. Internal platform metrics revealed a massive opportunity for the publishing industry, as 77% of successful screen adaptations originated from publishing formats, led by:

  • Novels: 43%

  • Manga: 34%

  • Webtoons: 11%

The Rise of Thai Content Leadership

A core focus of the showcase was the explosive growth and leadership of the Thai market. GagaOOLala data confirmed that Thai-produced series matched Japan in volume on the platform, with both regions accounting for 26% of total series respectively. This parity underscored Thailand’s evolution into a global production powerhouse for BL and GL content. Furthermore, Thai was the third most prominent language for screen adaptations on the platform at 15%, tied with Korean.

A 360° Multi-Revenue Ecosystem

GagaOOLala is aiming to move beyond video to enable a "360° Universe" for the content on its platform. By acting as a global distributor, co-producer, IP bridge, and accelerator, the platform is helping partners monetize IP across:

  • Multiple Formats: Series and Shorts.

  • Ancillary Revenue: Photobooks, merchandise, and international licensing.

  • Live Engagement: Fan meetings and "Pink Tourism" economic drivers.

Success stories like the 2025 megahit Revenged Love and GagaOOLala Originals such as First Note of Love and Fragrance of the First Flower served as tangible proof of how a single story was scaled s across multiple IP formats.
