GagaOOLala Strengthens Thai BL and GL Publishing Connections at Y Book Fair 11
Partnership connects Thailand’s publishing and fan communities with international streaming and IP opportunities
Global LGBTQ+, BL and GL streaming platform GagaOOLala continued to expand its engagement with Thailand’s publishing and creative industries through its partnership with Y Book Fair 11, held on July 11 and 12 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.
Dedicated to BL, GL and LGBTQ+ media, Y Book Fair brought together publishers, writers, illustrators, artists, platforms, retailers and readers across more than 100 booths. As an official event partner, GagaOOLala collaborated with the fair on special visitor activities, including complimentary VIP access codes and exclusive postcard and poster sets for GagaOOLala members.
According to post-event data provided by Y Book Fair 11, the two-day fair welcomed 14,119 unique visitors, representing a 64.88% increase compared with YBF10. The results reflect the scale and continued growth of Thailand’s BL and GL publishing and fan communities.
Connecting Readers with Global Streaming Audiences
GagaOOLala’s participation at Y Book Fair 11 forms part of its broader strategy to connect publishing, streaming, fandom and intellectual property development.
Earlier this year, GagaOOLala became the only streaming platform to exhibit at the 2026 Bangkok International Book Fair. The platform presented publishing formats such as novels, manga and webtoons as important sources for screen adaptation and international content development. GagaOOLala’s internal data showed that 77% of successful screen adaptations on the platform originated from publishing formats, led by novels and manga.
Thailand plays an important role in this strategy. Thai-produced series account for 26% of the series available on GagaOOLala, matching Japan as the platform’s leading source of series content. Thai is also one of the most prominent languages among screen adaptations available on the platform.
By participating in a specialist fair centred on BL, GL and LGBTQ+ publishing, GagaOOLala was able to connect its international streaming ecosystem with readers already purchasing and engaging with related stories, creators and merchandise.
The partnership also created opportunities to introduce book-fair visitors to GagaOOLala’s content through trial memberships, while offering existing members exclusive benefits linked to the physical event.
Building Pathways from Thai Stories to International Markets
Thailand has established itself as one of the world’s most influential producers of BL and GL stories. However, the market’s potential extends beyond completed television series.
Novels, comics and digital stories can be developed into full-length series, short-form productions, vertical microdramas and other audiovisual formats. They can also expand through international licensing, merchandise, photobooks, fan events and cross-border collaborations.
GagaOOLala aims to support this development by combining international distribution, platform audience insights and experience across content acquisition, production and IP expansion. Its previous projects have demonstrated how individual stories can extend beyond streaming into publishing, merchandise, music, fan engagement and overseas licensing.
The platform also sees opportunities to work with Thai publishers, creators and entertainment companies to identify stories with international audience potential. By connecting local consumer communities with global viewing data, GagaOOLala hopes to help partners evaluate new adaptation opportunities and introduce more Thai BL and GL intellectual property to audiences worldwide.
GagaOOLala’s partnership with Y Book Fair 11 represents another step in building stronger links between Thailand’s publishing sector and the international streaming industry. As demand for Thai BL and GL content continues to expand, cross-sector partnerships will play an increasingly important role in helping stories travel from the page to the screen and into wider global markets.
